CONSTIPATION / ANORECTAL PHYSIOLOGY TESTING
- Anal manometry evaluation
Pressure Studies to evaluate the strength of the anal sphincter muscle.
- Transit marker studies
This is an investigation for constipation which involves swallowing a capsule with small radiopaque marker and taking an X-ray a few days later to see how many has been retained and passed out.
- Defecating proctogram
Special X-ray study where barium paste is introduced into the rectum to simulate stools and the patient is asked to pass that out whilst taking the X-ray.
